Washingtonian Uses K4 for Multichannel Publishing

The Washingtonian is a top source of information for dining, shopping, entertainment and personalities in the Washington, D.C., area. More than 400,000 people read the award-winning magazine each month. A K4 customer since 2005, The Washingtonian recently upgraded to the latest version, 5.9, along with Adobe Creative Suite 3.

Over the years, The Washingtonian’s K4 system has continuously helped the magazine’s production team streamline its design and copy-editing processes. By switching to Adobe software, staff has been able to take advantage of tools for editing articles attached to layouts, in addition to more robust character and paragraph style sheet management, which were not available in the magazine’s old QuarkXPress system. Staffers have also enjoyed enhanced collaboration and efficiency as a result of the upgrade.

The Washingtonian is also using K4 to convert content for publishing online. Thanks to the system’s versatility and flexibility, content can easily be exported directly from the K4 system as XML. This data is then converted to HTML and published online without losing any formatting.

“The training and support we received from MEI enabled our staff to be productive on the first day that we used K4. Since then, we have found K4 to be very reliable and stable. Users find the system easy to use once they understand the basics of workflow.”
